The Court of the Murdered King

Current state: First Draft in Progress
Start date: February, 2017

Jewel Rannell wasn’t ready to become a queen. She knew all about her kingdom and how a court is run, but was barely old enough to even begin learning from experience. But when her father is murdered, her lack of experience doesn’t matter. Surrounded by political enemies and unknown intentions, she must discover the murderer, fight in a religious tournament, and lead her failing kingdom into a new time of prosperity.

She was queen now. The crown was heavy, but she felt a sense of security from it. She knew it was there. She was aware of its power.

She closed her eyes.

Laurus, bless me. Bless me that I should lead my people correctly. Bless me that I shall bring my kingdom honor.

Bless me that I shall find the Kingkiller, and I shall exact justice.

-The Court of the Murdered King, Ch. 3.

This is my current WIP. It is an amalgamation of three different ideas I’ve had over the years, has gone through just as many outlines, and continues to be a challenging book to write.

It’s also my favorite project I’ve ever worked on.
